Logo Design Process

Designing an effective logo is not a quick or easy process. It requires a great deal of research, thought, care and technique to guarantee the final design is not only aesthetically pleasing, but most importantly is right for your unique requirements. Below we have provided an overview of the steps that make up our process. With the combined expertise and experience of our team we have honed this process to one we believe delivers the best possible results for our clients. If you would like to get started or know more, please get in touch.

01 Make an Enquiry

To get the ball rolling on your logo design project simply submit an enquiry using our quick and easy contact form, or email us directly at info@redkite.design.

Provide us with your contact details and a brief summary of your business, logo requirements and budget where possible. A member of our team will review your enquiry and be in touch as soon as possible.

02 Create a Logo Design Brief

In order to give us the best possible chance of nailing your brief and creating the perfect logo for your business, we will first need to gather as much information from you as possible. Every business is unique and therefore so are the individual requirements of each logo.

In order to gather this information we will send you a link to a more in depth questionnaire. The information provided in this stage will really help us to delve deeper and gain a detailed understanding of what makes your business tick - from company history and future goals, to competition and target audiences.

03 Research & Exploration Phase

After receiving the results of your questionnaire our team will study your answers in detail, researching your company and competitors, as well as the market you aim to target. This is one of the most important parts of the design process.

Before pen is put to paper, we want to be sure we know your business inside out, and that all design decisions are made with thought and purpose, highlighting everything that is unique about your company. Our exploration here helps us discover potential ideas that we can draw on for inspiration in the design phase.

04 Design Generation

To start the design phase we begin by creating a mood board of images that resonate with your brand message. This includes everything from imagery, to tone, to colour palettes and symbols that represent your industry.

Next we put pens to paper and begin to sketch initial concepts for your logo. At this point any ideas that come to mind are roughly drawn out giving us a large array of potential avenues to consider. Once we have a few promising ideas to explore we continue to traverse these tangents, refine them, and sketch out clear concepts ready to take on screen.

This is when the designs really come to life. We use a vector-based software program called Adobe Illustrator, which means the artwork produced is scalable and will always remain high quality.

We will always take an incubation period of at least a day to step away from the work. This gives time to consider other ideas, and refer back to our initial objectives, ensuring our final designs meet all agreed goals.

05 Presentation of Concepts

Once our designs are fully finalised and ready to present we will put together a PDF document of each idea. In this document we will demonstrate how and why we arrived at our final concepts and why we think they would work for your business.

We will show each logo in full colour as well as black and white silhouettes, demonstrating its versatility, and how it could be used in different applications. We will also provide your logo concepts in real world examples, tailored to your business. Seeing each logo laid out like this gives you the best possible chance to envision what your chosen logo will look like when rolled out in the future.

The final choice will be up to you, and if you feel the final design could be modified in any way to better suit your requirements, this is when necessary changes will be made.

06 Handover & Additionals

After any amendments are made, and once both parties are completely happy with the chosen design, we will prepare the final files ready to hand over.

You will receive your final logo files in all formats ready for use on print documents as well as digital media. This includes full colour files in both ‘positive’ for use on light backgrounds and ‘negative’ for use on dark backgrounds, as well as black and white silhouettes. Final files will include vector formats which can be scaled to any size without losing quality. We also provide you with a logo usage document to help you get the best out of your new logo as the business grows.

Red Kite can also produce logo related design collateral. This includes everything from business cards and letterheads, to social media banners and custom stationary. For information on any of these services simply let us know your requirements and we will work with you to make it happen!

Should you require any further help with your logo files, or if you have any questions about our logo design process, do not hesitate to get in touch, we would be happy to help.
